Getting Your Septic Tank Pumped Is Important

2 Minutes Posted on:

You may think that you don't have to do anything to your septic tank, but there are things that you do have to do in order to make sure that your septic tank is working the way that it should. The most important thing is to make sure that you get your tank pumped out when it needs to be. A tank that is overly full can't accept any more wastewater, which means that the water is going to back up in your house or leak out of your tank and get all over your yard. Getting your tank pumped is a quick and easy thing for you to do. It doesn't need to be done every year, so it is something that you will have to make sure you stay on top of. So, how does pumping your septic tank work?

Find the Access Point

The first thing the person pumping the tank is going to do is make sure that they can find the access point. In some places, that point will be above the ground, in others, it will be at ground level or slightly buried. You need to know which is which for your tank, and where your tank is. If you have a general idea as to where the tank is, that will help the septic tank tech. Once you have shown the tech where the access point is or about where it should be, they will look for it, uncover it, and start pumping.

Pump the Tank

The service tech is going to bring a huge tank truck with a long hose on it. The hose is going to be relatively wide. It has to be because there are things that need to be sucked up in the tank, and the wider the hose, the less likely things are going to get stuck in it. The tech will feed that hose down into your tank, and turn on the vacuum in their truck. The vacuum will suck everything up and put it in the tank truck so that it can be taken away from your house. The septic tank company will take the waste away, and safely deal with it. It will have to be handled carefully, because there is raw sewage in the tank, and that can be dangerous to handle.

How often you pump your tank out depends on how big your tank is and how much use it gets. Talk to a septic tank pumping service so they can tell you how often it needs to happen.
